2421 Progress - Promotion
Policy No. 2421
Section: 2000 - Instruction
PROGRESS/PROMOTION
The board recognizes that the rate of physical, social, emotional and academic growth will vary among individual students. In addition to these individual growth characteristics, it also shall be recognized that placement needs to be based on the achievement of state required educational performance standards. Students are considered to have been promoted to the next grade level after the successful completion of the school year and the recording of final grades.
It is the responsibility of the student to apply constant and sustained effort with all learning activities and assignments in order to meet performance standards. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to encourage and support such effort.
School staff, parent(s)/guardian(s), and students will interact as partners to enhance student success. Together, they must understand the performance standards and their roles in helping students meet the standards. These standards represent a continuum of grade-level competencies needed for students to be successful in all academic areas.
Parent(s)/guardian(s) will be notified of their child’s progress on a regular basis through the re- port card. Schools will regularly monitor progress of all students and identify appropriate interventions. Students not meeting standards, especially those at risk of not being promoted, will be identified early in the school year and academic support will be provided. The final decision regarding retention or promotion shall be made by the building principal.
